reflections from an afternoon at The Broad
Recently I spent an afternoon at The Broad, a modern art museum in downtown Los Angeles. There I got to see several of the works analyzed in Basquiat’s Discographies up close and personal for the first time, showing me heretofore unnoticed details that gave me an even greater appreciation of those works and their pertinence to Charlie Parker. That in itself made the visit worthwhile, but it was especially interesting to experience Basquiat’s work in the context of this particular modern art institution.
